Microchipping a Dog

Losing a pet can be a devastating experience. Although many people have collars or tags on their dogs, these can sometimes fall off or be removed. Microchipping your pet is an effective way of ensuring your animal can always be identified. Microchips are implanted under your dog’s skin and remain there for life. By registering your dog’s microchip, an owner’s contact information can easily be retrieved, ensuring that your pet can make it back home.

When it comes to missing pets, you can’t always rely on an ID tag to protect their identity. Collars and tags can easily go missing or contain illegible information; however, a microchip containing your contact information — once injected under the skin — remains with a pet for life. Airdrie Animal Health Centre offers microchipping services to provide some measure of comfort in the event that your pet goes missing.

How does microchipping work?

Each microchip contains a code unique to your pet and can be scanned by a microchip scanner. Scanners are commonly available at any veterinary clinic. This code is registered to an online database that can be accessed to obtain contact information and return the dog to its owner.
